What was your main area of research?
I studied quantum chemistry and structural biology of enzymes. I then moved to structural immunology and neurobiology during my postdoc. My research was very tool- and technology-oriented.
What is your current job?
I am the Head of Neuroscience at the Institute for Protein Innovation in Boston, MA.
I develop antibodies and other protein tools for neuroscience applications.
Protein engineering, community building, & engaging early career scientists to discuss how we can help them with better tools are the best parts of my job.

I found this position through networking.

Why did you decide to not pursue a career in academia?
I didn’t enjoy the red tape, politics, and limited resources.
What advice do you have for someone getting their PhD and looking to pursue a career outside of academia?
Learn a skill or technology that is cutting edge and will be in demand during your PhD
Stay open minded about your career path and think about your long term goals
Go to meetings and conferences and talk to your peers working outside academia
Build a network around your expertise and include outsiders
